The Exclusive Debut of local artist, Laura Appelman's elegant, one-of-a kind and playful collection of jewelry will begin Thursday, April 29. Laura will be appearing in our shop; Wednesday, May 5 from 2-3:30 pm and Thursday, May 6 from 2-3:00pm. Her jewelry will be available for purchase April 29 and beyond.

Laura has an extensive art background, originally from Chicago, a resident of Westport, CT for 10 years and currently resides in Easton, CT. She has recently digressed from her prior mediums to polymer clay, first creating sculptures and
most recently designed her unique jewelry collection.

Her jewelry inspires reactions to the magical colors and unique design. Using only the finest quality, her beads of polymer clay incorporate Swarovski crystals, sterling silver beads and sterling silver fasteners and clasps.

Laura welcomes your visit and looks forward to answering your questions and providing a glimpse into the process of her creations.

It is said that at the time of the Roman Empire a festival was held every February in honor of the God of Fertility. During the festivities, men would choose their mates and marry. When Claudius became Emperor, marriage was outlawed so young men could serve in the army and not worry about leaving a new wife at home.

However, many couples chose to marry regardless and went to the Catholic Bishop Valentine who married them secretly. When Claudius found out, Bishop Valentine was arrested and ordered to be put to death. While waiting in jail, the Bishop began exchanging letters with the jailer's daughter and soon fell hopelessly in love with her. On the day of his execution he wrote to his beloved and signed it "From Your Valentine"...and so it is said...

Juane de Chrome - Unique glazes for Tabletop Industry

Juane de Chrome, a new dinnerware manufacturer prides itself on the unique 'glazes' that are used to achieve dramatic and unique results. This china, made on a French porcelain base, produced by jean Louis Coquet, is made using very specific firing temperatures along with the reaction of the enamel upon firing. No two pieces will have the exact same glaze result. This is what makes Juane de Chrome a special new addition to the tabletop industry. You can actually feel the glazes as you run your fingers along each piece.

Some of the very popular china patterns are: Aguirre, Tortoise, Cream Scale and Jungle Amber. They are mostly available with a platinum, gold or no border. We, at LCRwestport, have used these patterns in combination with different china patterns produced by other manufacturers. You'd be surprised how well a more contemporary pattern such as these 'glazes' can mix and match with more traditional looks such as Anna Weatherly or Mottahedeh blue and white - Blue Canton, Imperial Blue or Tobacco Leaf. On their own with no finition (metal rim), they are a great choice for a more sophisticated everyday china.
